This week’s new Online Time Trial pairs a big, smooth grand tourer with a circuit that likes to catch you out. Gran Turismo 7 sends the Aston Martin DB11 ’16 to the Autódromo de Interlagos on Sports Medium tires.

If you’ve never driven the DB11, it’s one of the more approachable cars you could ask for here. There’s a deep well of smooth torque underneath you, and the power arrives in a way that’s easy to meter on your way out of a corner.

That counts for a lot at Interlagos. The home of the Brazilian Grand Prix runs anti-clockwise and never sits still, dropping downhill through the Senna S before threading the infield and hauling back uphill to the main straight. All that camber and elevation can make it a fussy place to find a clean lap. The DB11’s easygoing delivery should take some of the sting out of it and make the whole thing more enjoyable to chase.

Mercedes-AMG Virtual Championship Continues

The multi-platform Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Virtual Championship still has a few weeks left, too.

The way into the GT7 field is a single hot lap in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 ’20 at Spa-Francorchamps on Racing Soft tires, with qualifying open until July 20 (17 days left as of publication).

The quickest qualifiers go straight to Division One; everyone else who logs a valid lap goes into a raffle for the Division Two grid. Entry is open to anyone aged 16 or over, and you’ll need to register and join the Discord to be counted. We covered last year’s season, and the full rules and entry link are here.

One Week Left at Willow Springs

There’s also a week left on last week’s event, which drops the Renault R8 Gordini ’66 onto the Horse Thief Mile at Willow Springs on Sports Soft tires. That one closes on July 9.

Accessing Online Time Trials

If you’ve not jumped into one of these before, you’ll first need to unlock Sport Mode by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe. There’s no need for a PlayStation Plus subscription to take part. See our full unlock guide here.

Once an event closes, prizes go out based on how close you got to the fastest lap: gold for anyone within 3% of the top time (2,000,000cr), silver within 5% (1,000,000cr) and bronze within 10% (250,000cr).

New events arrive every Thursday, and each runs for two weeks with the oldest dropping off as a fresh one appears. The next new Online Time Trial lands on July 9.

Online Racing Event
