Automobilista 2's ever-expanding car roster is about to gain a significant piece of Formula 1 history, as Reiza Studios has announced a new partnership with Renault.
To celebrate the collaboration, three of the French manufacturer's most famous modern-era Formula 1 machines will arrive in the simulator with the next major update: the championship-winning R25 and R26, as well as the race-winning R28.
For Formula 1 fans, the additions represent a golden era for Renault. The R25 delivered Renault's first Drivers' and Constructors' Championships of the V10 era in 2005, with Fernando Alonso becoming the youngest Formula 1 World Champion at the time. Its successor, the R26, successfully defended both titles in 2006, cementing Renault's place among the sport's dominant forces of the mid-2000s.
The R28 may not have enjoyed the same championship success, but it remains a memorable car in Renault's Formula 1 history. Driven by Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet Jr. during the 2008 season, the car claimed two Grand Prix victories and marked Alonso's return to the Enstone-based squad after his brief spell at McLaren in 2007.
For many sim racers, the headline act is likely to be the R25. Its naturally aspirated 3.0-litre V10 engine produced one of the most distinctive sounds in Formula 1 history, making it a favourite among fans long after its championship-winning campaign ended.
Safe to say Lewis Hamilton loves the sounds of the R25...
The Renault partnership continues Reiza Studios' strategy of expanding Automobilista 2's collection of officially licensed historic machinery. While the simulator already features a broad range of Formula-inspired content, the addition of genuine Renault Formula 1 cars adds another layer of authenticity for players looking to relive some of the sport's most memorable seasons. If you look closely, a certain Woking-based car can also be seen in the Renault's mirror...
The McLaren appears in the right mirror, teasing another official McLaren F1 car.
No exact release date has been confirmed yet, but all three Renault machines are set to arrive as part of the next Automobilista 2 update. Keep your eyes peeled here on OverTake for the next devblog, it is not too far away!
