Official Cars, Tracks, Teams & Drivers: Formula Legends Announces Official Formula E Expansion

3DClouds have announced a partnership with Formula E for their arcade racer Formula Legends, with licensed content set to be added on April 30.

A licensed series is set to join stylized arcade racer Formula Legends: Developer 3DClouds had mentioned an announcement already in late 2025, then proceeded to make an April Fools joke off the back of this with the supposed introduction of the FormulaBee class. This time, it’s not a joke – and the partnership is rather high-level, as Formula E is set to debut in Formula Legends.

The all-electric World Championship will be available as a paid expansion called Formula E: Electric Evolution starting on April 30, with the Nintendo Switch version of the game getting the expansion later. It won’t just be a generic Formula E-style car that will be added, though: Instead, all three generations of the single seater will be available, including all teams and drivers.

And it does not stop there. In addition to the Gen1, Gen2 and Gen3 Evo cars, teams and drivers, the following six real-life Formula E circuits are part of the expansion:

  • Berlin
  • London
  • Miami
  • Sao Paulo
  • Shanghai
  • Tokyo

Formula E Gameplay Elements To Be Introduced

Alongside the content, the new Formula E classes will also feature gameplay elements that mirror specific rules of the series: lap-by-lap battery management, double-header races, Pit Boost, and Attack Mode all will arrive in Formula Legends – the latter will be available for a limited number of times, and only in Attack Zones, as is the case in real-life Formula E.

Considering Formula Legends is a passion project by an indie studio, it is not very surprising that 3DClouds CEO Francesco Bruschi (@Akrapovic) is delighted to see a World Championship officially joining the game:

"To have a series as prestigious and entertaining as the Formula E World Championship in Formula Legends is truly extraordinary. Formula E has been a fantastic partner for us and incorporating drivers, teams, tracks, cars, branding from this series and even its iconic theme has been a joy from start to finish. We hope players will enjoy our efforts bringing this unique motorsport series to life in our game."

For Formula E, the allure to join forces with Formula Legends appears to have been in the game's showcasing of the evolution of motorsport, as Brand Licensing & Retail Director Sanjay Shivaram explained:

"We are incredibly excited to enter Formula Legends, with its focus on the evolution of motorsport making it a perfect home for Formula E. By bringing the GEN1- GEN3EVO race cars into this stylised world, fans can experience the future of racing. We’re particularly excited about the “cute” vehicles and style of racing, which sits uniquely in our gaming offering. 3D Clouds has done a great job at styling our cars to their universe, and Formula E is thrilled to join this journey."

How did 3DClouds and Formula E end up getting in touch and deciding to team up? We're looking forward to shedding some light on the background of this announcement soon - keep your eyes peeled!

Formula E: Electric Evolution in Formula Legends releases for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on April 30, with the Nintendo Switch version receiving the new expansion later. It is set to cost £7.99 / $7.99 / €7.99.

Formula E In Other Titles

When the expansion releases, it will not be the first time official Formula E content will be available in a racing game. Sim racers can run the Gen1, Gen2 and Gen3 (non-Evo) cars and a number of official tracks in rFactor 2, with the Formula E Pack 2023 available for €29.99 on Steam. The pack comes with the three generations of cars, plus the London, Berlin, New York, Hong Kong, Rome, and Diriyah circuits.

Other titles that feature Formula E are Roblox, Asphalt Legends Unite, Real Racing 3 (though its servers have been shut down in March 2026 and the game cannot be downloaded anymore), Trackmania, Asphalt 8: Airborne, and Game For Peace, which is available exclusively in China.

Editor's Take

Yannik.webpFormula E may not enjoy the best reputation among motorsport purists, and personally, the series hasn't been very interesting to me thus far - although I do recognize that the technology in its cars has come quite a long way, which is commendable. At first, Formula E was little more than that silly electric series where they had to change cars during pit stops for many.

Since then, however, things have accelerated quite rapidly, which is quite fitting considering that a GenBETA Formula E car holds the FIA single-seater acceleration record, set by Reem Al Aboud in 2024.

But regardless of whether or not Formula E is your cup of tea, it is cool to see a relatively small project such as Formula Legends enter a partnership with such a high-level series. Having covered the game since its announcement, it has progressed quite nicely, and having talked with some of the folks behind Formula Legends, it is clear that this is a passion project to them. It's great to see that it gets recognized for this!

Additionally, Formula E might be a perfect fit. It's fast, frantic, and stuff like Attack Mode always seemed a bit game-y to me, anyway. I've yet to try the Electric Evolution expansion, but I can imagine that the added Formula E gameplay elements will lend themselves well to the style of racing in the game.
