3,000 Horsepower Megacar Arriving in Gran Turismo 7 Update

The next title update to Gran Turismo 7 is set to arrive this week, and it includes three cars: an old 90s-style sports car, another small Eurobox, and what will be the most powerful car in the game.

Update 1.69 of Gran Turismo 7 is set for arrival this week, with series producer Kazunori Yamauchi revealing the cars being added. Though, of course, they are obscured, the eagle-eyed playerbase can exactly pinpoint which cars they are.

What many people may not have expected amongst the three additions is a car that would depose the SRT Tomahawk X as the most powerful car in the entire game.

Gran Turismo 7: Update 1.69

First up is the shape at the back, a very distinct one that all GT7 players have come to expect in every update, fulfilling the quota of an ordinary and unassuming car. In this case, it is unmistakably a first-generation Renault Twingo that first began life in the early 90s and ran to as late as 2012 in some markets.

Throughout that time, the car in its most powerful configuration produced a mere 75 horsepower from its 1.15-litre 16-valve 4-cylinder engine, getting it from 0-60 mph/100 kmh (eventually) in 14 seconds and to a top speed of 104 mph/168 kmh. Though of course at Car Collection Level 50, players will be able to perform an engine swap in GT Auto so who knows what absurd combination will be available for the Twingo.

One thing is pretty much certain: there will be a Twingo race as part of the Weekly Challenge races, so if anyone intends to complete those, prepare for the possibility that the Twingo will be needed.

Next up is the Porsche 911 (964) which will be much more up the playerbase's street, this generation of the famed rear-engine performance car was produced between 1989 and 1993 with many versions of it made. There were the likes of the Carrera 2, Carrera 4, Turbo 3.3, Turbo 3.6 and Carrera RS 3.6, so anybody's guess is as good as ours.

But whichever version it ends up being, it will have about 10% of the horsepower at best of the final car that will be part of this update. Whilst it initially seems like a McLaren Senna, the shape actually belongs to a car we previously mentioned as set to arrive in GT7.

As part of the official release of the PlayStation 5 Pro and GT7 in China, the BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme was shown lapping around the Shanghai International Circuit, which seemed to point to the car and maybe even the track being included in the game at some point down the line. Whilst nothing has been confirmed about the track as of yet, the car will be part of the 1.69 update.

The first Chinese EV to be added to the title was the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, which came in the January 2026 update, but whilst that has to make do with only 1,527 horsepower, the BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme will have 2,977, which is as near as makes no difference, 3000! That will put it as the most powerful car in the entire game once added, with the current king being the SRT Tomahawk X at 2,586.

However, it will not be the fastest accelerating car. With a 0-60 mph / 100 km/h time of 2.36 seconds, whilst the Xiaomi can do it in under two seconds, nor will it be the highest top speed, with 308 mph / 496 km/h, with the Tomahawk able to eclipse 400 mph / 650 km/h. Nevertheless, that much power, plus weighing in at nearly 2.5 tonnes, will make it a very unique experience to drive, putting it mildly.

When Will The 1.69 Update Release?

Traditionally, the updates become available on Thursdays at 6 am UTC, so expect 1.69 to release on April 23rd. Before then, we will likely get some official word from Polyphony about the cars, along with everything else that will be added, typically some races that incorporate the new cars and perhaps a new Scapes location as well.

In the event that there is a new track, we will update this article with everything officially announced and confirmed by Polyphony, so keep your eyes peeled here on OverTake!
